How to Prepare a LinkedIn Profile that Stands-Out

Your LinkedIn profile is your chance to get your name and face in front of hundreds (or even thousands) of professionals in your industry. 1. Decide on your audience.  What should be a tone of your message? When creating your LinkedIn profile, it’s important to first decide on your target audience. Are you looking to attract potential employers, clients, or industry peers? Determining your target audience will help you shape the tone and content of your profile.

For example, if you’re looking to attract potential employers, your tone should be professional and focused on highlighting your skills and experiences that make you a valuable asset in your industry. Conversely, if you’re targeting clients, your tone should be more client-focused, emphasizing the services or solutions you offer.

5. Turn your summary into your story. Your summary section is where you can go into more detail about your professional background, experiences, and career goals. Instead of simply listing your job history and skills, take the opportunity to tell your story and showcase your passion and expertise.

Start by introducing yourself and providing a brief overview of your background and career journey. Then, highlight your key accomplishments, projects, and areas of expertise. Use concrete examples and metrics to demonstrate your impact and success.

Additionally, use your summary section to showcase your personality and values. Talk about your motivation, interests, and what is important to you.

6. Do not overuse buzzwords. Buzzwords are terms or phrases that are commonly used in professional settings but often lack meaning or originality. They can make your LinkedIn profile appear generic and uninteresting. Instead of relying on buzzwords, focus on using specific and descriptive language to highlight your skills and experiences.

For example, instead of using buzzwords like “team player” or “results-oriented,” provide specific examples that demonstrate your collaboration skills or your ability to achieve measurable outcomes.

7. Grow your network. LinkedIn is all about networking and connecting with professionals in your industry. Take the time to provide advice, comment, and share your insights about problems that are important to you.
