Job Sites

There are plenty of job sites around and for the better positions, it is a good idea to stick to reputable ones.  When searching, make good use of the filter to narrow down your search by industry, location, and job title.  This will help you find suitable jobs faster saving considerable time.

There are many job search sites that are specific to your chosen industry.  It is worth taking the time to find them and see what they have to offer.

Remember, many of the better jobs are not advertised on job sites.

Networking

Networking is a tried and tested method to get results.  Having an active and dynamic professional network generates possibilities.  From delivering a concise and precise elevator pitch, attending network events, to being active on LinkedIn, good networking enhances your career.

Maintain a Strong Personal Brand

Customize your CV and Covering Letter to the Job you’re Applying for

The simple fact that is your generic CV and covering letter is not good enough to hold the attention of hiring managers and recruiters.   In the few seconds it takes them to decide whether to put you through to the interview stage, you can bet your next pay cheque that the generic ones simply don’t make it through.

To maximise your chances you should customize your covering letters and CV to be in tune with the job applied for.  So for example, if you have an achievement that is more in tune with the job put it first even it is out of time sync.

The Right Company

A good exercise is to make a list of companies you’d like to work for and then research them online.   Often, job vacancies will be posted either on their website and often LinkedIn.  You can then target your application to the company specifically, utilising the research you have performed.

Prepare for the Interview

Follow up – It’s Important

It is important to follow up an interview with a phone call or email.  This shows the decision makers that you’re keen and dedicated to the position.  It also keeps you in their minds should another vacancy arise, or their first choices pulls out and they need a replacement.  Follow up; it could land you the role.
